Styling this cover shoot for Malibu Magazine with my client Chanel Iman was so much fun! I love that it turned out with such an edgy, urban, 70’s vibe.
Styling one of my favorite clients shoot coupled with the fact that Malibu Magazine is one of my favorite publications made this just the dreamiest of jobs. We shot this in a studio and round about on the streets and back alleys of Downtown Los Angeles. Jake Chessum was our amazing photographer and Michelle Marcus the creative director of the magazine.
The cover shot is head to toe Louis Vuitton and the minute we put it on we were obsessed! (You can’t really see in the pictures, but she actually has these fabulous green disc earrings on that are also Louis Vuitton…. incidentally they are also featured on this months cover off Vogue with Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss… great minds think alike!) We did 2 amazing Valentino shots, with the navy linen 3 piece and also the printed leather jacket and cornflower blue shirt dress underneath. The white Balmain jumpsuit was actually a red carpet look that we ended up slotting into the shoot and the tweed red and black Chanel outfit with leather laser cut sneakers is utter heaven. Self Portrait is the designer of the very cool denim and black eyelet cotton jumpsuit and Honor for the gorgeous romantic white ensemble that Chanel is wearing coupled with her MEGA braid! The whole shoot came together really organically, we kelp accessories to a minimum letting the location, clothes and Chanel do all the talking and the result was a wonderful mix of edgy, urban, romantic with a Springtime energy.
The 70's are back! Keep this trend fashion forward by adding in subtle elements rather than a huge statement. Great ways to do this are a flare cut to your trousers or pairing a square toed, stacked heeled bootie to some ankle length pants.
