Finding the perfect coat to flatter your body type is an easy process. Follow these simple guidelines and look perfectly chic all season long!
This is one of my fave ‘fall fashion’ shots of Julianne. She was wearing this gorgeous blush look by Reed Krakoff, Kurt Geiger printed pumps and a Nancy Gonzalez clutch. She them threw on her own Chloe coat and it was the coolest mix of prints. I sadly cant take credit for the coat but it was just a fun fashion moment that all just came together!
I tend to look at overcoats as an investment piece. If money is not a problem then of course spend away, but if you live in the real world like most of us do, a classic and elegant, timeless piece that you can wear season after season is what you are after. Buy the best you can afford, a fabulous coat is a style statement and allows what ever outfit is underneath to be less than perfect. They are also fabulously figure flattering!
Choosing the right coat for your body type: The taller you are the longer your coat can be, anyone under 5’7″ should avoid floor length or below the calf style. Belts are a great way to create a waist and show off an hour glass figure. If you are short waisted or wider in the middle opt for a slim tailored coat without a belt. if you have a bigger bust, choose an open collared style that is cut on the wide side.
Coat closet: A complete coat closet would have an everyday coat (peacoat type of length – mid thigh), an evening coat, a raincoat (I suggest a great trench… this never goes out of style, is flattering and is chic chic chic!), a cold weather parka / puffer (sometimes being warm is more important than being stylish!) and a fab statement coat!
STAY MOISTURIZED DURING THE WINTER MONTHS:
In the winter months when your skin gets dry, apply an oil-based cream instead of a lighter lotion after you shower to lock moisture in. Look for ingredients such as beeswax, squalane, petrolatum, and shea butter. To boost absorption, warm your jar of cream in a sink of hot water while you shower!
